❝ For the past four hundred years the governments of the world - the parliaments, the senates, the kings, queen, emperors, the fascists and the communists, the proletariats and the bourgeosie - have never really been the ones in control of their countries. Orders - clandestine society of superpowered operatives - have worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of hundreds of governments throughout the world. Selecting their operatives according to their own agendas the Orders continue to regulate themselves independently of any governmental involvement whilst maximising their involvement in national affairs at the very topmost political levels.

Each Order assigns its operatives codenames according to various cities within its country. For example, each operative role in the Order of Great Britain comes with its own city-related codename and a particular power. The operative assigned the codename St. David's has the role of gifting each new city their superpower and removing it when their time comes to leave. As befits their city, the operative codenamed London is the presiding leader of the Order. With St. David's as their right-hand advisor and the precog Westminster as their left, London has the last word in any decision that the Order makes. Each Order that has been created as a result has a set up that is very much the same as the original Order.

Things have not always run smoothly for the Order. With its particularly long and bloody past the UK Order has had some particularly dramatic moments. In times past events have escaped their control and come to light to the British public - from the English civil war to Jack the Ripper, there have been times when disagreements within the Order have threatened to destroy them. Orders members have always been political creatures - not only at large and on a national scale but within their own ranks. None of them are strangers to drama - but when you gift some of the brightest men and women of the country inconceivable powers, who could blame them for meddling with each other as much as they meddle with their government? ❞ ( verse overview written by [personal profile] fizzy ) ( x )
So basically the world is the exact same, except there exists ABOVE SUMMARY of secret organisations. Long story short, the French helped the Americans persuade St. David's (of the British Order) to defect during/around the Revolution, who then seeded the American Order. Boston, being an incredibly important city during the Revolution, was at the forefront of the newly minted Order business—and of course with the ability of power bestowal, helped seed the rest of the American Order as it exists today: people with powers sticking their noses in all the business.

EARLY LIFE
Brought up in Somerville, MA, by comfortably wealthy folks and one younger sister, Nate had a relatively uneventful childhood. He went to school, did all his homework, and got punched around by kids who liked to think they were his friends, and by extension, allowed to terrorize the playground and its inhabitants. They day he started punching back was the day they decided they wanted to look for greener pastures, which suited Nate just fine. At this point, he was already carving a small loner niche for himself, and the only interests he had took place in his own head or alone in a library. If he'd had any childhood friends lasting longer than a shared, nervous grin in passing, he would've discovered his penchant for protecting people a few years earlier... but as it was, he preferred solitude over being social, and got more work done that way.

It was in his early teens that Nate began to lash out. His grades began to take a few hits, and he spent much of his free time out of the house, crashing at friends' places to avoid interacting with his family.

ACADEMIA + ARMY
Though Nate applied to a slew of Ivy League schools, including the very prestigious Harvard University, one of the only schools who would accept him was Boston University due to his less than stellar academic record. He enrolled in the BU ROTC course almost immediately after being received as a student—failing to notify his parents to his decision until his freshman second semester.

THE ORDER

Personality:

❝ actions have consequences ❞

...

He's also able to see both sides of an argument, even if he disagrees with one side; though his job doesn't afford him to pick and choose the kind of people he wants to help, he knows the ones he agrees with. Cambridge is mostly conservative with semi-liberal values that border on self-serving, but as with justice, he would prefer a fair outcome for everyone. Cambridge will put others' needs above his own.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

HUMANITYSHOT THROUGH THE HEART
The dude is so far from being invincible it's kind of funny. His power is among the few that doesn't actually afford him any offensive or tactical advantage. Therefore, completely susceptible to long-range/short-range attacks. And death. Yes that.
